Dialect is a studio which aims to identify the role that cultural threads play in a multicultural society and how new emerging cultural threads may appear to create a formal architectural language that is unique to Melbourne. Food is how we communicate hospitality, invitation, welcome and unity. By the offering of something of your own, you in part leave a trace of your culture on someone else. Food can carry the essential essence of a heritage. However, it is not just food that retains the identity of it’s maker; in the Dialect studio, we expose ourselves to all forms of cultural expression; art, film, literature and design. Through the study of others, we hope to gain insight into our own collective identity as Australians and find a language which communicates our history, our new evolving identity, and in the best of cases project our own future aspirations.
